Hanging Rock
Set in a breathtakingly beautiful location, Hanging Rock Winery is one of the most award-winning wineries in Australia, achieving numerous Red 5 Star awards from notable wine critics, including James Halliday.
The vineyard was established in the very cool Macedon Ranges in 1983 by John and Ann Ellis, who were old hands in the Australian winemaking industry. Their aim was to produce Australia’s first cool climate traditional method sparkling wine. Along the way they also fell in love with the ancient, red clay soil and climate of the Heathcote region. Nearly 40 years on Hanging Rock Winery is considered a contemporary pioneer in both regions.
Today the next generation have taken over the day-to-day running of the business. Ruth & Robert Ellis grew up in the winery and have made it their own since taking over in 2011. Today they make over 25 wines covering most styles and price points.
